A BIZARRE sight was spotted on a Bradford road this evening, as a huge shape made its way into the city.

A member of the public photographed a strange shape on the back of a truck, moving down Rooley Lane today.

The object looked to be like a turtle shell with hands rising out of it.

But what is it?

Well it is in fact a sculpture - The Knife Angel to be precise - and will be officially unveiled at 11am on Monday outside City Hall, in Bradford.

The statue, which is also known as the National Monument for Anti-Violence, is a 27ft structure made from more than 100,000 bladed weapons which have been seized by police forces across the UK.

It was created by sculptor Alfie Bradley at the British Ironworks Centre in Oswestry, Shropshire and has been displayed in over 30 towns and cities across the country since 2018.

Now it is Bradford's turn and the unveiling event will also mark the beginning of a month-long campaign for anti-violence led by Bradford’s Youth Justice Service.

It will be attended by the campaign’s stakeholders including the Lord Mayor, partners from West Yorkshire Police, Probation Services, Youth Justice Services, Bradford University, the NHS and more.

Activities taking place throughout April as part of the campaign include an arts competition, visits to The Knife Angel by schools, the Scouts and other community groups, school assemblies and an anti-violence conference.
