A BRADFORD bar is set to permanently close next month, it has announced.

Sally Brown’s, a ska and northern soul music venue on North Parade, has decided to shut for good on Saturday, April 29 after it opened in November 2021.

In an announcement made on social media, the bosses of the bar, said the area was "so quiet" and they "can’t hang on any longer".

In a move of solidarity, it also encouraged people to use the other bars in North Parade.

Sally Brown’s posted on its Facebook page today: “With huge sadness we announce that Sally Brown’s will close permanently. Our last day will be Saturday, April 29.

“We have tried so so hard to make things work and it’s simply impossible!

“We changed our drink selection, we added food, we changed so much to try encourage people to visit us but sadly North Parade & Bradford but it’s just so quiet and we just can’t hang on any longer. No leaving party this time…..

“We thank everyone for contributing to Sally Brown’s and we hope we can see you all in the future. Steve & team “PS please visit the other bars on the street. No doubt they all need a hand.”

The distinctive yellow-coloured bar initially announced it would permanently close in October last year, less than a year after it had opened. Among the reasons for its closure were Covid-19, limited “opportunities” with Bradford’s night economy, “extortionate” business rates and competition from other businesses.

It sparked an outpouring of support from customers – leading to more than £1,600 being raised. A crowdfunding page was also set up at the time to help keep the bar open.

The bar brought people from across the UK to Bradford since it opened.

Some loyal fans have even travelled from Wales and Scotland to watch his bookings play.

The music venue also helped out in the community when it offered free festive meals to the homeless and those in need on Christmas Eve last year.

The venue also received £4,100 from charity Music Venue Trust’s (MVT) Investment Fund to pay for new flooring in January this year.

Sally Brown’s was also set to be one of the venues for The Big Bradford Comedy Night, which will be held at sites on North Parade on Saturday, July 22.

The Telegraph & Argus has contacted Sally Brown’s for any further comment, but they were unavailable.
