A STAND-UP comedian says he wants to give back to his home city when he holds a huge night of laughter at a number of Bradford bars on the same night.
The Big Bradford Comedy Night will see three bars on North Parade and Darley Street each hold a free night of stand-up on Saturday, July 22, from 6pm to 10pm.
A total of 48 comedians will take to the stage for 10-minute sets at Sally Brown’s and The Peacock Bar, both on North Parade and Juke Bar on Darley Street.
Each of the three participating bars will have 16 comedians performing, which means people can walk between each venue and catch some of the action for a comedy equivalent of a bar crawl.
The event is the brainchild of Bradford-born comedian Amarpal Singh who says he wants to further boost the comedy scene in the city.
Despite the names of none of the comedians being announced yet, Mr Singh says the participating performers will come to the event from areas including Darlington, Liverpool and Sheffield.
Mr Singh, 34, says he hopes the event will boost trade for bars on North Parade and Darley Street - venues he frequents on home matchdays when he goes to watch his beloved Bradford City at Valley Parade.
He says the huge event will include a diverse mix of performers and comedy genres to appeal to all types of sense of humour.
In a post advertising the event on his Instagram, under his Comedy Singhtral alias, he says he wants the event to make Bradford comedy history.
He said: “I’m buzzing for it.
“This will help to give the bars the biggest push possible over the summer. There will be 48 acts, 16 acts in each bar. We will have different acts in different bars.
“I’m going to MC at one of the venues on the night too. It is a mini-comedy festival.
“I’m hoping it will become an annual event and will go from strength to strength.
“If it smashes it this year, it could become a staple of the Bradford summer circuit.
“Bradford is the city that raised me and made me who I am. The city has given me so much and I want to give something back.
“I’m Bradford born and raised. I love this city, I love North Parade and I want to help the bars after the effects of Covid.”
