THE Ilkley branch of a popular Yorkshire-based Kashmiri restaurant chain is set to close permanently in May.

Kashmiri Aroma on Coutances Way in Burley-in-Wharfedale, Ilkley – which opened in 2008 - will shut for the final time on Bank Holiday Monday, May 1.

A spokesperson for the restaurant took to social media to thank customers for their support and invite them to celebrate their 15th and final Mother’s Day lunch and evening buffet on Sunday.

They said: "We’d like to thank you for celebrating countless events and forming everlasting memories and friendships with us over the past 15 years.

"As most of you know through word-of-mouth, our Ilkley branch will be closing down soon, with our last night scheduled for Bank Holiday Monday on the 1st of May.

"The good news is that we have recently acquired a new site in Baildon, just over the moors, so you can continue to dine with us after we vacate.”

The news of the closure of the Ilkley branch was greeted with dismay. Many responded to the social media post to express their disappointment.

One person said: “Me and my family are so sad to hear you are closing in Ilkley. Food and staff are amazing.”

Another said: “So very sorry to hear this - it’s the best curry in Ilkley! We will continue to support you in Baildon.”

"Very sad, the end of an era," said another customer. "Will miss you all" was the message from another customer.

Over the years Tariq Mahmood from the restaurant has provided support to the Ilkley community by sponsoring Ilkley Carnival.

The restaurant chain, known for its all-you-can-eat buffets, has branches throughout Yorkshire including Bradford where it occupies the site where The Turf used to be, at the junction of Keighley Road and Emm Lane, a stone's throw from Lister Park.

Its website says the new Baildon restaurant, on Northgate, is now open.
