A PIECE of memorabilia from Bradford City's only FA Cup final win in 1911 is set to go under the hammer next week.

A commemorative silver dish was handed to referee John Peterson following City's 1-0 victory over Newcastle United.

Mr Peterson, who stared once for England in his playing days, refereed the original tie, which finished 0-0 at Crystal Palace on April 22, and the replay at Old Trafford on April 26.

A crowd of 65,000 spectators witnessed Jimmy Speirs grab the spoils for the Bantams.

An antique dealer of 60 years saw the item pop up in London and believed it must come back home to Bradford.

He said: "Bradford City have only won the cup once so it deserves to be back here.

"I am hoping that whoever buys it keeps it here.

"It is solid silver and very high quality. It is like a fruit dish.

"It is fully inscribed in the middle. It was given to John Peterson who was the referee on the day of the cup final."

The value of the item, which goes under the hammer at Halfway Auctions in Shipley on Monday, is estimated to be worth £1,500.
