NEW £65,000 public toilet facilities for disabled people have been officially opened in a Bradford district town.

The Changing Places facilities in Myrtle Place, Bingley, are different to standard accessible toilets and are specifically for people with multiple and complex disabilities who have one or two assistants with them.

The room contains a toilet, fixed-track motorised hoist system, basin which has a height that can be altered and adult-sized changing bench. The facility will also include a shower.

The facility will be accessible via a radar key and is attached to The Hub – the site used by Bingley Town Council in the centre of the town.

An official opening ceremony for the Changing Places facility was held on Saturday, March 4.

The Changing Places facility was funded by a grant of £20,000 from the Government’s Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, donations from two companies, Sovereign Health Care and Don Whitley Scientific Ltd, and Bingley Town Council.

The Town Council says it would like to thank the members of the Changing Places Working Group for their commitment to this cause, including Darryl Smith, Fiona Dunne, and current and former councillors Steve Williams, Lewis Kirdale, Mick Taylor, Mark Truelove and Abdul Malik.

The Town Council thanked Bradford Council and Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK) for their help with the project.
