An Indian bistro and grill in Bradford city centre has been named among the nation’s best restaurants.

Kun - an Indian halal bistro and grill - found on Wilton Street, off Morley Street – was highly commended at the inaugural Nation's Curry Awards.

The restaurant, which opened its doors in June last year, was a finalist in the Best of Yorkshire category.

Bengal Lounge Wetherby was crowned the overall winner.

The special mention was described as an “honour” by chef Muhammad Shaqil, who opened the business with his wife, Vahida Iqbal, after relocating from Scotland.

“It’s an honour,” he said.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

“We’ve only been trading for such a small period of time. We’re surprised.

“I was very happy, I haven’t won anything like this for a long time.

“We’re getting a lot of new faces coming into the restaurant now, we’ve got great reviews.

“The curries are going very well and we use Aberdeen Angus and people rave about our steaks. There’s a lot of customers who just come in for steaks.”

It comes after the bistro proved so popular that the restaurant expanded four months after opening.

He said: “We’re optimistic especially in the current market that we’re in. Business is tough for everybody.

“We’ve seen recessions come and go over the years but this one seems to be quite bad. It’s very difficult for business to keep afloat.”
