A CYCLIST was injured in a serious crash with a car in Heckmondwike this afternoon (Thursday).

The collision took place at 1.20pm today at the junction of Huddersfield Road and White Lee Road in Heckmondwike.

A spokesperson for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We received an emergency call just after 1.20pm today to a report of a collision involving a car and a cyclist.

"A number of resources were dispatched to the scene, including two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and an air ambulance.

"One patient (the cyclist) was conveyed to Leeds General Infirmary by road ambulance."

The West Yorkshire Police confirmed earlier they were at the scene of the collision.

Numerous road closures were in place while police carried out their investigations in the town. Motorists were advised to take alternative routes.
