A collection of unique ‘Mouseman’ furniture and furnishings from a legendary chef’s hotel is set to go under the hammer.

Leeds-born chef Marco Pierre White is selling a number of creations by carpenter Robert Thompson from the Rudloe Arms in Wiltshire.

The Kilburn carpenter’s furnishings all feature his trademark mouse - carefully carved onto tables, beds, bookcases, benches, chairs, pulpits and pews, and much more.

The chef began collecting Mouseman furniture when he first entered the hotel trade.

He now hopes to return a selection of the Kilburn carpenter’s original Mouseman furnishings to Yorkshire

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Highlights include two impressive 12ft Refectory tables, originally commissioned in 1949 for The North Riding School in Scarborough; bed frames from circa 1929-32; triple mouse bookends; bar stools; fruit bowls and a large selection of tea trays and ashtrays.

The sale will also feature the Tanfield Collection of Mouseman, collected over a 45-year span by Susan Tanfield of North Yorkshire.

The collection will go under the hammer at Tennants Auctioneers, Harrogate, in the 20th Century Design Sale on March 4.

Prices range between £100 to £7,000.

The chef said: "As a boy growing up in West Yorkshire, I had heard talk of ‘Mouseman furniture’.

"Years later I began collecting pieces; not only is Mouseman incredibly practical and durable – perfect for a busy hotel – but it is beautiful and so tactile."
