A CRYSTAL Meth dealer who threw away £4,435 of the Class A drug while speeding away from the police in a grey BMW 120d has been jailed for two years and eight months.

Ahmed Abbas was spotted in the car ‘of interest to the police’ on Clayton Road, Bradford, at 11.40pm on February 23 last year, Bradford Crown Court heard.

Abbas, 20, of St Margaret’s Road, Great Horton, Bradford, sped off through red lights causing another vehicle to brake hard to avoid a collision.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Prosecutor Mehran Nassiri said he was pursued down Great Horton Road and Horton Grange Road into the residential area of Woodhead Road.

He went down Legrams Lane at 60mph before mounting the kerb and knocking over a concrete bollard. He jumped out of the car but was apprehended.

Abbas had thrown a man bag away that contained 149 small bags of Methylamphetamine weighing 34 grams and with a street value of £4,435. There was also cash in the bag that was seized by the police.

While under investigation, Abbas was caught dangerous driving a second time in a cloned Ford Fiesta.

Mr Nassiri said he was seen in Girlington, Bradford, on May 15 and accelerated off at 7.30pm. He squeezed past parked cars and collided with a Mercedes before abandoning the car.

He made no comment when arrested but went on to plead guilty to two offences of dangerous driving, possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply, failing to provide a specimen and driving with no insurance.

Abbas’s barrister, Shufqat Khan, said he had no previous convictions and he had been working for a gas engineer.

He had ‘significant issues’ detailed in a psychological report which concluded that he had an intellectual disability.

The dangerous driving offences were not the most serious to come before the courts, Mr Khan said.

Abbas had run up a drug debt after taking cannabis and been pressured by his dealer to sell drugs to repay it.

He was now on medication to deal with his problems and his family was very supportive of him.

Judge Andrew Hatton sent Abbas to a young offender institution for 18 months for the drugs offence and 14 months to run consecutively for the dangerous driving offences.

He was banned from driving for three years on his release from custody.
