A BRADFORD firm has helped raise £125,000 in an appeal to help those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
Overland Developments put out the call on social media just over a week ago, asking for any business acquaintances, friends and colleagues to donate.
Boss Parvez Akhtar said two workers at the firm are heading out to the region in a week’s time to offer hands-on help, and the company has agreed to fund their flights and accommodation.
As a result all donations will be spent on delivering aid on the ground.
Reports suggest more than 33,000 have been killed.
The company’s Facebook post said: “We send our deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of those killed, injured and displaced.
“Two of our staff members have volunteered to fly out on 20th Feb to help with delivering emergency aid, shelter, food aid and urgent medical supplies, through the generous donations of our business acquaintances, customers, friends and families.”
Mr Akhtar said: “We’ve partnered with the Abu Zahra Foundation in Keighley and our staff will be flying out to meet up with them on February 20.
“It means that the money will spent on what is needed the most, and not on getting our two volunteers out there.”
