ONE of the UK’s fastest-rising stand-up comedians says he is looking forward to returning to Bradford as part of his debut national tour.

Emmanuel Sonubi, who has starred on TV comedy shows including ITV’s The John Bishop Show and BBC’s Live At The Apollo, is set to perform his ‘Emancipated’ stand-up show at The Studio in Bradford on Friday, April 28 at 7.30pm, as part of his debut 23-date national tour.

Emancipated looks at many of the elements of Emmanuel’s life including being raised as the only boy and the youngest of six children and being a father to two young children.

His show also covers his time as a doorman in some of the scariest clubs in London and his career in musical theatre before he went into comedy.

London-born Emmanuel made his comedy debut in 2015 and has since become a regular favourite at the Comedy Store in London. He has gone on to perform at many of the largest clubs in the UK and festivals including Altitude Comedy Festival in Austria, Kendall Calling, and even at last year’s Glastonbury Festival. He made his TV debut on Comedy Central UK.

He also recalled his previous visits to Bradford when one of his sisters was a university student in the city and his nights out with her university netball team.

Emmanuel said: “I have played a couple of club gigs in the past there (Bradford).

“Bradford is where my sister went to university. She played in the netball team. I came up to see her.

“I really enjoy gigging up in the north of the country. People up there are so much more friendly. They are down to earth and a lot more welcoming.

“I really enjoy doing my tour show. It feels like the first time I have done it each time.

“It’s humbling that people have bought tickets to see me. My favourite comedy is things people can relate to.

“I did so many different types of jobs. I already knew how to be on stage. I was a bouncer for a long time.

“Someone convinced me to give stand-up a go. I had always been a fan of comedy.

“Appearing on Live At The Apollo was the goal. I watched the show for years. That’s where I wanted to get to.”

Tickets for Emmanuel’s ‘Emancipated’ show at The Studio, Bradford, priced £17 and recommended for people aged 14 and over, are available from bradford-theatres.co.uk/whats-on/emmanuel-sonubi
