A MAN caught parking up a stolen Renault Megane on false plates outside his Bradford home has been jailed for 51 weeks.

Wayne Thackray, 40, of Sandfield Road, Idle, ran off after he was spotted by the police at the wheel of the vehicle on January 5 while disqualified and uninsured.

Bradford Crown Court heard on Monday that it was taken in a recent burglary.

Thackray had been seen being carried in a stolen BMW three days earlier. The vehicle, also on false plates, was abandoned on Brunswick Road in Bradford. The court heard it had been stolen on Christmas Day.

Thackray, who has been recalled to prison, was sentenced for two offences of driving while disqualified, on November 12 last year and January 5, and dishonestly receiving the two stolen cars.

The first driving while disqualified offence was when Thackray was seen driving quickly through the Thorpe Edge area of Bradford. He was stopped by the police and gave false details.

He had been banned from driving in 2014 and had failed to take the extended test necessary to get a licence.

He was on bail when he committed the offences of handling the stolen cars.

Recorder Paul Reid said Thackray had ‘an absolutely lamentable’ record of previous convictions He was banned from driving for 75 weeks.
