A GIN bar is set to go back to its roots when it re-opens at a £1.9 million underground Victorian tunnel development in Bradford city centre.
The Gin Bar, which will re-open to the public on Friday, January 27 at 4pm, was one of the original bars inside the complex when it opened in December 2016.
It has undergone a name change since but new owner Alex Khan, 30, has opted to return it back to its original name of The Gin Bar.
It will have a selection of 30 gins available to visitors and has an ale on tap, which will initially be Night Owl by Dudley Hill-based brewers Salamander.
A selection of cocktails will be on the bar’s menu, including Singapore Sling alongside soft drinks and spirits. Bottled lagers will also be available.
The bar will have a main 40-seater area and a side bar where drinks will be served.
Mr Khan, who worked previously as manager at Sunbridgewells’ Wallers Brewery bar, paid tribute to Sunbridgewells developer Graham Hall, who died last month, after he had worked with him at the complex.
Mr Khan said: “It’s very cosy. We’re going for an exclusive theme.
“Gin drinkers are upmarket and usually older and that is the type of customer we are aiming for.
“The bar will include background music and it will have 1920s-style music.
“The Gin Bar was its name when Sunbridgewells first opened. The bar was packed when it first opened up.
“I was good friends with Graham (Hall) and I want this bar to do well for his sake. I was manager at Wallers Brewery from March last year until the end of last year.
“From the reaction we have had from people on social media about The Gin Bar opening up, we’re going to have a lot of people here for the opening night.”
A post on the Sunbridgewells Facebook page said: “Join us on Friday, January 27 for The Gin Bar’s grand re-opening.
“We can’t wait and hope to see you guys there for the party!!!”
It is the latest venue to open to customers at the leisure complex which includes a number of bars, a pizza restaurant called La Caverna Pizzeria and a coffee kiosk; The Coffee Booth.
The underground complex, off Centenary Square and built underneath Sunbridge Road, Upper Millergate and Ivegate.
The Gin Bar will be open every Tuesday to Sunday between 4pm and 11pm, apart from Fridays and Saturdays when the bar will be open from 4pm to 1am.
