DRIVERS in Bradford have seen the highest increase in car insurance in Yorkshire from last year, a new index has claimed.

Confused.com said that the average cost of car insurance in the 'Leeds and Sheffield' region – which Bradford is part of – is at its highest in nearly three years.

Drivers in this area are now paying, on average, £102 more than they were this time last year.

The cost of car insurance in Bradford has risen by 17 per cent, on average – with drivers in the district now paying £125 more than last year.

This is the biggest rise in the region, followed by Huddersfield, where drivers, on average, are paying £104 more.

Halifax has seen the third-highest increase in the area at £101, followed by Sheffield (£98), Leeds (£97) and Wakefield (£95).

Bradford is the most expensive area in the region, with the average premium now £879. 

Louise Thomas, car insurance expert at Confused.com, said: “The current financial climate is difficult for everyone.

“The best advice I can give is to shop around before you need to renew. This is the only way you can ensure that you’re paying the best price out there.”
