AN inquest into the death of a woman who was killed in a crash has opened today.

Margaret Loveday, from Keighley, died after the collision in Brighouse and Denholme Gate Road, in Shelf, close to its junction with Score Hill, at 11.08am on Monday, January 9.

A white Ford Fiesta and a grey Toyota Prius were involved.

Mrs Loveday was the driver of the Ford Fiesta and she was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary where she died at 12.25pm that day, the inquest’s opening hearing was told. 

The male driver of the Prius was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the crash and has since been discharged.

The inquest into the 76-year-old’s death was opened and adjourned at Bradford Coroners’ Court today (Monday, January 23) by assistant coroner Angela Brocklehurst.

Mrs Brocklehurst said at the brief hearing that Mrs Loveday’s inquest’s file is scheduled to be reviewed for progress on April 17. A conclusion date for Mrs Loveday’s inquest has been fixed for June 12, 2023.

The assistant coroner added she has requested a police investigational report to be sent to her, which will take 12 weeks to obtain, alongside a report from Mrs Loveday’s GP.

Meanwhile, West Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit is investigating the crash and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, or what happened prior to it.

Officers would also like to hear from anyone who has dash cam or CCTV footage that may assist their investigation.

A previous West Yorkshire Police statement on the crash read: "Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in Halifax.

"The Western Area Roads Policing Unit would like to speak to anyone who saw or has footage of the collision which took place today (Monday, January 9) on Brighouse and Denholme Gate Road, close to the junction with Score Hill.

"It occurred at about 11.08am after a white Ford Fiesta travelling towards Stone Chair roundabout was in collision with a grey Toyota Prius travelling in the opposite direction.

"A male driver in the Prius suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

"The driver of the Fiesta (a 76-year-old woman) was taken to hospital but sadly passed away.”
