There was a huge emergency response on the M62 this afternoon after a serious car fire along an inside lane.

The AA is warning of 20 minute delays to journeys due to the incident on the M62 Eastbound, between Junction 26 M606 J1 (Chain Bar) and Junction 27 M621 (Gildersome).

West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue received reports that a Ford Fiesta was on fire at around 1.41pm on Saturday.

It led to a complete closure of the major M62 route at around 2.04pm.

Fire crews from Odsal and Cleckheaton responded to the incident while West Yorkshire Police and National Highways were also in attendance.

The fire was swiftly brought under control and the car has since been recovered.

But it continued to impact traffic. According to the T&A's traffic partner INRIX, only two out of four lanes were open by mid-afternoon.

All lanes appear to have reopened and traffic is moving as normal, as of 4.40pm on Saturday.

Delays were reported elsewhere along the M62 Eastbound, particularly between M62 (Hartshead Moor Services) and Junction 27 M621 (Gildersome).

The average speed along this section is ten mph.
