ONE of the country's top stand-up comedians says he is looking forward to returning to Bradford as he prepares to bring his debut tour to the city.

Eshaan Akbar, who has starred on TV comedy shows including Mock The Week, QI and Live At The Apollo, is set to perform his 'The Pretender' stand-up show at The Studio in Bradford on Friday, March 10 at 8pm, as part of his debut 32-date UK tour.

But it won’t be the first time he has performed in Bradford after he previously played supporting roles at stand-up shows by fellow comedians Jason Manford and Tez Ilyas.

Eshaan has performed three sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and has opened for fellow comedian Micky Flanagan. He has also supported the likes of Sindhu Vee, Dane Baptiste and Rory Bremner on tour.

Eshaan has provided the voice for the likes of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and former Conservative Cabinet member Sajid Javid for the TV re-boot of Spitting Image.

Eshaan says the theme of his The Pretender show will see him look at how he creates a version of themselves in a bid to fit in. He also wants his show to be an hour of laughs for people to escape everyday life. He said: “It will be nice to see what audience turns up for my show in Bradford. It’s a fun city.

Bradford is one of my favourite cities to perform and has a similar character to Liverpool and Glasgow; working class people at its heart who want to have a good time. I’m looking forward to the Bradford show

“They do better takeaways in the north than in the south.

“It’s quite exciting to be doing my first tour. When you start out as a comedian, getting onto a national tour feels quite far away. It will be nice to go up and down the M1 and M6, it’s something I have dreamed of doing.”

Eshaan says he loves performing in front of a live audience and says he keeps his feet on the ground, as shown when he performed on BBC Two’s Live at the Apollo show in front of 4,500 people at London’s Hammersmith Apollo and then in front of four people at a show in a small cinema room in St Albans the following night.

Tickets for Eshaan’s ‘The Pretender’ show at The Studio, Bradford, priced £17 and recommended for people aged 14 and over, are available from bradford-theatres.co.uk/whats-on/eshaan-akbar
