A STAR-studded Netflix movie is set to be the latest production filmed in an historic area of Bradford city centre.

Six Triple Eight, a drama set during the height of the Second World War, is set to be filmed in Bradford’s Little Germany next month.

The film follows the story of the Second World War’s only all-black, all-female unit.

Its cast is led by Kerry Washington, star of TV drama Scandal, Susan Sarandon and talk show host and actor Oprah Winfrey.

The 6888th unit, made up of 855 women, contributed to the war effort by sorting through a three-year backlog of undelivered mail and delivering the post to American soldiers serving during the conflict. The group of women helped to deliver 17 million pieces of mail to troops during the war which lasted between 1939 and 1945.

A day of filming for the movie is scheduled to take place in Little Germany on Thursday, February 16, with preparation work by the production company getting underway from Sunday, January 22.

Two letters have been sent to residents and business in Little Germany which may be affected by the filming.

A number of streets in Little Germany will be dressed by the production company to fit the theme of the Second World War. The streets affected are: Scoresby Street, Burnett Street, Cater Street, Vicar Lane and Currer Street.

A second letter, sent earlier this week, informed residents and firms of initial road closures in Little Germany.

Scoresby Street and Burnett Street will both be closed from Monday, January 23 to Friday, January 27, to enable the streets to be dressed for the production.

The letter adds: “The closures will be changing on a week-to-week basis as we get closer to the shoot date, and we will have a weekly letter of updates to accompany this with all the relevant infor5mation included.”

It will also be a return to Little Germany for Netflix which saw scenes shot for the eight-part series Bodies, which is set to star Line of Duty actor Stephen Graham.

Filming took place on Burnett Street in September last year.
