LATEST NEWS: Man suffers life-threatening injuries in crash this morning

POLICE have kept a carriageway of a major road closed after a serious crash.

Emergency services have been at the scene of a collision on Calderdale Way (A629), near Lowfields Business Park in Elland, since around 7am this morning.

The crash involved two vehicles, according to traffic alerts.

Both carriageways of the road were closed and this led to significant traffic issues between Salterhebble and Halifax and Ainley Top.

But the carriageway heading towards Ainley Top has now reopened.

The other direction is still closed and is expected to be shut until late afternoon while police continue to investigate the crash.

Motorists are being advised to find an alternative route.

A statement from West Yorkshire Police at 1.57pm said: "A629 Ainley Top-bound carriageway now reopened.

"Halifax-bound carriageway expected to remain closed until late afternoon while collision investigation continues.

"Motorists are thanked for their patience and advised to find an alternative route."
