MASS disruption was caused after a man died on the train line between Bradford and Halifax earlier this week.

The incident occurred during rush hour on Monday evening at around 5pm on the track near Westfield Drive in Hipperholme.

Emergency services rushed to the scene causing the line to be blocked as several services were delayed and cancelled.

British Transport Police say the incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

One woman, who was trying to get back to her Halifax home after finishing work in Manchester, was caught up in the disruption.

She said: "At the time, I was not sure what had happened but many services were either delayed or cancelled.

"Luckily for me, I managed to get my train leaving Manchester at around 6pm.

"I was unable to get off at my usual stop in Halifax, due to the incident, so I had to get the bus home from Hebden Bridge.

"It is just awful to hear what happened. Thoughts go out to the poor man's family and friends."

British Transport Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Service attended the location just before 5.20pm.

When the latter arrived, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

At 5.40pm on Monday, Northern tweeted: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Bradford Interchange and Halifax, the line is blocked.

"Train services running through these stations will be cancelled, delayed or diverted."

The line reopened just before 8pm, the train operator said.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line in Hipperholme, West Yorkshire, at 5.18pm on January 16 to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
