AN inquest will be opened following tragedy on a residential street that led to a cabbie losing his life.

Mohammad Ilyas died on Friday, December 23 last year. 

Police were called to Kenmore Road, Cleckheaton, at around 5am following reports a car had collided with a fence and had come to a stop in the garden of a house.

“Upon attending, officers found a male with serious head injuries lying on the floor nearby," West Yorkshire Police said at the time. 

“The male was taken to hospital by ambulance but sadly died before arriving."

In an update, the force said Mr Ilyas' death was not being treated as suspicious. 

A statement issued on December 28 said: “Enquiries remain ongoing regarding this matter, but the death is not currently being treated as suspicious.

Mr Ilyas was from Halifax and it's understood he was an Uber driver. 

An inquest into his death is due to open tomorrow (Tuesday, January 17) at Bradford Coroners' Court.
