PLANS to help make a Bradford cricket ground “more accessible to a wider audience” have been approved.

An application to build ten covered, all weather cricket nets at Bradford Park Avenue Cricket Ground were submitted by Total Play Ltd last year.

The planning application said the 42 metre by 42 metre structure at the Horton Park Avenue site would allow people to practice cricket throughout the year, and ensure there will be no more “rain stops play” moments.

It would provide 10 cricket lanes, and the area would be resurfaced with artificial grass.

Planning officers at Bradford Council have now approved the scheme, saying it would enhance a significant local facility.

One of the oldest cricket grounds in Bradford, the sport has been played on the Park Avenue site since the 1870s.
