THE final series of a popular TV drama series partly filmed in Bradford continues this weekend.

Happy Valley began its third and final series with a dramatic episode on BBC One on New Year’s Day.

The series will continue with episode two tonight (Sunday, January 8) at 9pm.

Sarah Lancashire has resumed her role as Sergeant Catherine Cawood for the final series and some scenes were filmed in Thornton last year.

The BBC has released a few teaser photographs taken from episode two featuring some of the show’s top characters.

James Norton and Siobhan Finneran also return for series three - as Catherine’s nemesis, the murderer and sex-offender Tommy Lee Royce, and Catherine’s sister, the recovering addict Clare Cartwright, respectively.

In this series, Catherine discovers the remains of a gangland murder victim in a drained reservoir which sparks a chain of events that unwittingly leads her straight back to Royce.

She also has to deal with problems at home with her grandson Ryan, now 16.

A synopsis for tonight's episode hints: "Catherine learns of a painful betrayal close to home."

The first episode was left on a cliffhanger last week after Catherine heard rumours were going around that Ryan had been visiting Royce, his father, in prison.

It ended with her being told that there was intel from the prison in Sheffield that she wasn't going to like.

Film crews descended on Thornton last year, with Siobhan Finneran spotted filming scenes.

The short scene that was filmed on Market Street involved Siobhan walking down the road, talking on a mobile phone before waiting at a bus stop with signage that had been replaced to say 'Cooper's Hill Avenue'.
