The world's most famous steam locomotive will visit the Bradford district as part of its Centenary celebrations.

Flying Scotsman was built in 1923 and an extensive programme of activities has been drawn up to celebrate the iconic loco's landmark year.

With 2023 nearly upon us, railway enthusiasts will be looking ahead with excitement to the Doncaster-built engine's upcoming visit.

The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, a picturesque line that runs through Bronte country, including Oakworth and Haworth, will host Flying Scotsman throughout much of May.

The five-mile branch, long associated with The Railway Children, has promised a "whole host of events" across the month to coincide with the loco's visit.

The programme is likely to include 'ride the legend' opportunities and special dining services.

Some atmospheric late-night running sessions are also in the pipeline, while enthusiasts can expect "plenty of photo opportunities."

The A3, numbered 60103, was officially the first steam locomotive to reach 100mph and holds the world record for a non-stop run in a steam loco, set in 1989 with a 442-mile trip.

The loco looks set to be at the K&WVR from May 1 to May 24, with more specifics to be revealed in due course.
