YORKSHIRE and the Humber had the highest number of disqualified drivers in the UK last year, new research has claimed.

Bill Plant Driving School submitted Freedom of Information requests to the DVLA to find out which regions had the most drivers who had fallen foul of the rules in 2021.

There were 18,675 disqualified drivers in Yorkshire and the Humber in that period, the most in the country.

This was followed by the North West of England – which had 18,511 disqualified drivers – and London, with 18,468.

The South East of England (16,244) and the West Midlands (12,703) completed the top five.

The South West of Scotland recorded the lowest number of disqualified drivers in 2021, with 206

The data also found that 45,632 drivers lost their licence due to having more than 12 points, which was more than any other offence.

The second most common offence was driving or attempting to drive with an alcohol level about the limit, which led to 34,969 drivers losing their licence.

Earlier this year, the Telegraph & Argus reported on an unlicenced BMW driver who sped off from police in Bradford and caused chaos at the Valley Road Tesco when his car flew through trees and bushes before damaging three cars.

Junaid Ahmed, 26, of Midland Road, Frizinghall, was jailed for 14 months over the incident.
