FANS have been given a first look at the final series of Happy Valley.

The hugely popular television show will kick off its third and final series on BBC One at 9pm on January 1, 2023 (New Year’s Day).

In the final series, Sarah Lancashire plays Sergeant Catherine Cawood and some scenes were filmed in Thornton earlier this year.

BBC One’s Facebook page features an 80-second teaser video for the new series.

It posted: “Welcome back to Wild West Yorkshire When Catherine discovers the remains of a gangland murder victim in a drained reservoir, it sparks a chain of events that unwittingly leads her straight back to Tommy Lee Royce.

"Watch #HappyValley on iPlayer from January 1 at 9pm.”

James Norton and Siobhan Finneran also return for series three - as Catherine’s nemesis, the murderer and sex-offender Tommy Lee Royce, and Catherine’s sister, the recovering addict Clare Cartwright, respectively.

In this series, Catherine discovers the remains of a gangland murder victim in a drained reservoir which sparks a chain of events that unwittingly leads her straight back to Tommy Lee Royce.

She also has to deal with problems at home with grandson Ryan, now 16.
