A HEAD chef has come back to his roots to open up a steakhouse in Bradford.

Hot Rock Café gives diners the chance to cook their steak the way they want it on a hot stone at the new Buck Street restaurant.

It is the brainchild of head chef and owner, Sonny Ahmed, who has opened up the 40-seater restaurant in his home city.

He has previously owned and run similar steakhouses in the Isle of Man, Portsmouth and London before deciding to come back home.

Diners who visit Hot Rock Café in Bradford, which opened last month, are given the chance to cook their steak the way they want.

On arrival, Mr Ahmed speaks to diners, who choose the cut of meat they want. Then a hot stone is used, seasoning including salt is added, and the diner’s meat is taken to their table where they cook each bit for as long as they want.

The restaurant sells fillet and rump steaks, lamb and chicken breast as well as ‘surf and turf’ which consists of steak fillet and salmon. A seafood combo featuring salmon, prawns and seabass is also available on the hot stone for diners.

Mr Ahmed says he was inspired to open up a steak on a stone restaurant a number of years ago, after seeing it in action at a site in Ibiza.

He said: “I get a good buzz about people enjoying a good meal. I love people enjoying their food.

“I have come home. I’m Bradford born and bred. I love being back on home ground.

“I have not done business in Bradford for about 15 to 20 years. What we do is the best steak you will ever have. The meat we use is second to none. It is grass-fed, organic and aged.

“Steak on a stone was always seen as a fad. I have sold over one million steaks and only had two sent back. I always use high-quality meat.

“You could have a table of 10 people, but when the meat comes everyone goes quiet. It’s amazing to see.

“They are seasoned and what we’re trying to do is educate people about eating steak.”

He added: “I’m 51 now and have worked in restaurants since I was 14."

The steakhouse does not serve children aged seven and under due to safety reasons.
