A BRADFORD man has been banned for drug driving in Leeds city centre.

Samin Wadood, 31, of Baptists Court, faced two charges of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit and possession of cannabis.

Wadood was caught driving a motor vehicle, a Volkswagen Golf, on Kirkgate in Leeds city centre, when the proportion of a controlled drug, cannabis, in his blood, namely 6.7 micrograms, exceeded the specified limit. This offence took place on September 5, 2021.

He was disqualified from holding, or obtaining, a driving licence for 18 months for the charge. He was also fined £250 and ordered to pay £400 costs and a £34 victim surcharge for the offence. An application was made by the court for benefit deductions. A collection order was also made at the sentencing hearing.

Wadood was also fined £50 for a second charge of possession of a controlled drug of class B – cannabis/cannabis resin. This offence also took place on the same date and location as the first charge. The cannabis will be forfeited and destroyed by West Yorkshire Police.

Wadood pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on November 29, 2022.
