A WELL-KNOWN Queensbury pub has reopened under its former name following a £300,000 refurbishment.

The Raggalds, on Brighouse and Denholme Road, reopened last Friday after it was closed for a major refurbishment.

The pub had been operating as The Queen's Head before it closed a few weeks ago.

When the new owners came in they decided to restore the name Raggalds, which the pub was known as four years previously, and had been known as for many years.

"We've gone back to the heritage of the building and the local area," said barman Andrew Hewson.

"Even when it was The Queen's Head, the locals have always called it Raggalds."

Mr Hewson said the historic pub has undergone a major £300,000 refurbishment and £300,000.

"Heritage painting has been done on the outside and the inside of the building has been completely remodelled," he said.

"The old tap room has been taken out and it has been turned into a lounge bar for both dining and drinking.

"It's more comfortable and intimate with an open fire."

He said the pub has always been known as an "ideal venue for events and functions".

In addition to hosting a number tribute acts and DJs, Raggalds will also hold quiz nights and even Spanish lessons will become a feature.

"Everybody's loving it since we reopened last Friday. They've been praising the food and the new improvements."

Mr Hewson said the pub is managed by Richard Parker-Miller.
