FRESH plans have been lodged for ten homes on the site of a former stone works in Lightcliffe.

The scheme at St Giles Road involves part of the site, which has been split into three different plots for development.

Aceblade Ltd has applied to Calderdale Council to build ten detached family homes on the middle section of the three, which received outline permission for houses back in 2016.

The former stone works is near to Brighouse Town amateur football club’s ground.

The site itself lies within the green belt but is classed as brownfield due to the former stone works.

In a design and access statement accompanying the plans, it states: “The proposals present the opportunity to provide 10no new family homes that will make better use of a brownfield site that is currently occupied by a redundant stone cutting works.

“The activities of the stone cutting works were not appropriate in a residential area due to dust and noise and the proposals will have a positive impact on neighbouring properties including other recent housing developments.”

All of the ten proposed homes are five bedroom, some with garages. Mature trees around the site are expected to be kept where possible.

Materials include stone with feature zinc and timber cladding. Windows, doors and roof lanterns will be powder coated aluminium, and the roofs will be slate.

The report adds: “The properties are arranged in a loosely symmetrical fashion either side of a private driveway, with the first two houses either side of the entrance, forming a ‘gateway’ into the site.

“The houses are spaced well apart with good turning space for visitors/utility vehicles and each occupies a generous plot with all surround garden amenity and garage/parking amenity for two cars.

“In terms of form, the development consists of two storey or two and a half storey houses and offer a contemporised version of the traditional house.

“The scale is not inconsistent with other developments in the area and the mass of the two and half storey properties is visually reduced by including accommodation within the roof spaces.”

A decision is expected from planners by February 2023.

In 2020, outline plans to build 14 homes on a neighbouring part of the former stone works were approved by Calderdale Council planners, subject to a legal agreement.

Councillors were told the proposed access would be off St Giles Road, which was of concern to objectors to the scheme.
