TWO street drug dealers have been jailed for selling heroin and crack cocaine in Bradford.

Rizwan Iqbal, 25, of Parkside Road, West Bowling, Bradford, was locked up for two years and eight months after he was caught trafficking Class A drugs in his neighbourhood on January 2, 2020.

Co-accused Mohammed Miah, said to be directed by Iqbal, was apprehended earlier on the same day, prosecutor Andrew Stranex told Bradford Crown Court.

Miah, 22, of no fixed address, was locked up for a total of two years for the drugs offences and further matters committed while on bail.

Mr Stranex said that police officers on patrol in West Bowling saw drug dealing going on and detained first Miah and then Iqbal.

Iqbal was aggressive and obstructive and had to be subdued with PAVA spray.

He had 15 wraps of crack cocaine and ten of heroin hidden in his clothing, plus £76 in cash.

Miah’s address was searched on February 3, 2020, and 26 wraps of Class A drugs were found in his jacket. He made no comment when questioned except to deny that he was dealing drugs.

Mr Stranex said there was evidence that Iqbal had a significant role in the operation while Miah was an addict selling to drugs to fund his habit.

Miah went on to assault two security guards at Bradford’s Kirkgate Shopping Centre on July 18 last year.  The court heard he was drunk and swearing and struck his first victim on the cheek. When a second guard working nearby, took him to the ground, Miah kicked him.

On October 25, 2021, Miah was found to be in simple possession of heroin and cannabis.

His final offence was breach of a restraining order on May 28 this year. He was found hiding in a wardrobe at an address in Bradford that he was banned by a court from visiting.

He was remanded into custody for failing to surrender and sentenced on a video link to HMP Leeds.

Abigail Langford, Iqbal’s barrister, said he was very lightly convicted. He was in work but an accident left him in hospital and then on crutches and unable to continue with that employment.

He now had a different job and a family. He also had a significant heart condition and was fearful of going to prison.

The court heard that Miah was a drug addict dealing to pay for his own use. He had issues with both drugs and alcohol and had been sofa surfing before his remand.

Recorder Patrick Palmer jailed Iqbal for two years and eight months after he admitted possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.

Miah pleaded guilty to offering to supply Class A drugs and was locked up for 16 months. His total jail term was two years because of consecutive sentences for the offences committed on bail.
