WELL-KNOWN CBeebies presenter George Webster won the prestigious BAFTA award last night in the Presenter category.

George, 21 from Rawdon, won his first major career award at the BAFTA Children & Young People Awards having only started working on Cbeebies last September.

George said: "I feel really honoured and privileged to get this BAFTA.  I am really proud too.

"I couldn’t have done it without the support of all my CBeebies family and want to thank them all and everyone who has ever supported me. I’m over the moon and ecstatic!”

When he started his role George, became the first Cbeebies presenter with Down’s Syndrome.

In a previous interview with the T&A, George said: “ “I love singing, dancing, and being a presenter, and I’m glad that I get to raise awareness about people living with Down's Syndrome through my job.

“Me being on CBeebies opens the conversation of disability at an earlier age and if we can get children to think of disabilities in a different way then we’re changing the world already.”

Through his role on the channel he has raised awareness for people living with disabilities and has increased the representation for children living with Down’s syndrome.

George has worked with Mencap, a charity that works with people who have a learning disability, called Myth Busters, where he tackles assumptions and myths about Down's Syndrome.

Geroge Webster was shortlisted in October for the award, alongside Braydon Bent for FYI Investigates: Brazil, Yolanda Brown for YolanDa’s Band Jam, and Hamza Yassin, currently in Strictly Come Dancing 2022,  for Let’s Go For A Walk.

The Children & Young People Awards took place on November 27 at Old Billingsgate in London, hosted by presenter Lindsey Russell.
