Strictly Come Dancing’s Anton Du Beke has caused a stir after suggesting Hamza Yassin’s tango looked like he “played centre forward for Bradford City”.

The cameraman and his partner Jowita Przystal took to the dancefloor for an intense Argentine tango.

The Queen of Latin Shirley Ballas had nothing but praise for Hamza’s leading role in the performance.

“You’re amazing,” the head judge said.

“I just wish I could dance with you, you make this lady [Jowita] shine and that’s what dancing for me is about.”

But judge Anton had a slightly different perspective on Hamza’s footwork and described it as “a dance of two halves”.

It sparked loud booing from fans in the audience.

“This was a dance of two halves for me,” he said.

“The top half was amazing. It was calm. It was strong. It was leading. It was powerful. The bottom half looked like you played centre forward for Bradford City.

Kicking his legs up wildly into the air, Anton said: “You had these legs going up like this.”

He added: “I have to tell you, I think you’re brilliant. I’d like you to tighten up your legs a bit.”

Bradford City took to Twitter and joked with a laughing emoji: "Anyone watching #Strictly?"

Player number nine Andy Cook is the joint top scorer in the division with 13 league goals.

Bradford City fans fired back at Du Beke’s comparison to the football club.

One Bantam said: “WHAT? Hahahah, why’s he just attacked the peoples club?”

Another said: “Worth pointing out that @officialbantams  centre forward is doing rather well. @andy9cook is the leading goal-scorer in the league so far, & has 16 goals across all competitions!”

One Strictly fan weighed in: “I totally agree with Anton. Hamza did not deserve 10.”

Another said: “He was spot on.”

“Shots fired,” one said.

Craig Revel Horwood reluctantly agreed with Anton’s verdict, branding it “extremely messy”.

But Motsi Mabuse came to Hamza’s rescue and sparked cheers throughout the ballroom as she pointed to Shirley: “I agree with this lady here!”

“She looked like she was flying,” Motsi said.

“You can only be that way when you have a grounded partner.”

Hamza earnt 37 in this week’s competition, placing him second on the Strictly leaderboard.
