THE new Wyke Sports Village hosted an action-packed inter-schools cycling event.

Five Bradford primary schools, all involved in Bikeability UK’s Widening Participation Project, took part in a range of cycle disciplines, including time trials, sprint and endurance races as well as some team races.

All Saints CofE, Dixons Allerton, Bowling Park, Eastwood Community School and Margaret McMillian all took five boys and five girls from Year 5.

The events took place on the purpose-built mile-long cycle circuit.

Children also received coaching from British Cycling-qualified coaches.

The event was set up to encourage children from underrepresented groups in cycling to enjoy the sport.

The first event was the Individual Time Trial where children went one at a time around the circuit, each getting a separate time for their lap.

Margaret McMillian Primary won both girls’ events, while All Saints won both boys’ races.

For the Team Time Trial event, Eastwood's girls and All Saints' boys were the fastest teams.

The Chase events saw riders start depending on their Individual Time Trial time, with  faster children going last. The Endurance events involved two laps on the mile circuit.
