A BRADFORD councillor said it was "extremely worrying" to see a large police presence in the centre of a Bradford village.

A police probe is underway following a shooting on Torre Road, off Cooper Lane, last Friday.

A 30-year-old man was found at the scene with serious injuries and was rushed to hospital.

Louis Titre, 27, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Today (Friday) police confirmed a 30-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, who were arrested on Thursday on suspicion of assisting an offender, had been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The force confirmed that police activity on High Street and Brownroyd Hill Road in Wibsey was linked to the shooting probe.

Speaking on the police presence, councillor Ralph Berry (Lab, Wibsey) said: "It is extremely worrying.

"Any incident involving firearms is worrying.

"We are in communication with the police and hopeful they can get the full details of what has gone on."

When the Telegraph & Argus visited High Street at around 9am today, three police vehicles were in attendance.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "It's shocked me to see all the police cars.

"We don't have much trouble in Wibsey really but it's been getting worse.

"I've heard it's linked to that shooting the other night, so it's all a bit worrying."

The police presence on Wibsey High Street was gone by lunchtime.

Councillor Dave Green (Lab, Wibsey) said he was pleased to see the police were being so proactive.

He added: "In general, we work quite closely with our Neighbourhood Policing Team but I think the central team will be working on this one.

"Everyone, not just in Wibsey but in Bradford, is grateful that the police are being so proactive with this incident."

On Friday morning, a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "A 30-year-old man and 34-year-old woman have been arrested overnight (November 17) on suspicion of assisting an offender.

"The arrests relate to the firearms discharge on Torre Road on Friday, November 11."

Titre's case was sent to Bradford Crown Court.

He will next appear there on December 12 for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

It is on this date that the Bradford South man will enter his plea.

A woman who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender on Friday was bailed pending further enquiries.
