A BRADFORD virtual reality centre designed to be memorable won the New Business of the Year at the 2022 Telegraph & Argus Retail, Leisure and Hospitality awards on Sunday night.

VR City, based on North Parade in Bradford city centre, won the New Business of the Year award, sponsored by Bradford Council.

The joint owner of VR City was celebrating with his colleagues at Sunday night's awards ceremony.

Hassan Khan, joint owner of VR City, said: “It’s unbelievable that we’ve won this award.

“It’s a testament to the hard work of our employees.

“There’s been one challenge after another but we just work hard together.

“Customers are so important to us and we’ve brought to life a historic building,” added Mr Khan.

In the criteria for the award, judges were looking for new businesses that opened in the Bradford district in 2022.

Judges were keen to hear about the great idea, solid plan and how it had been going in the first year.

They noted it would be a great opportunity to highlight and celebrate progress made.

Virtual reality centre VR City opened about a year ago.

After being nominated, a spokesman for VR City said: “Were we crazy to embark on VR City venture slap bang in the middle of a pandemic? Of course we were!

“But we have been really passionate about bringing to life and renovating a beautiful historic part of Bradford town.

“We’ve persevered through adversity and difficulty and feel we have brought Bradford a leisure facility that can rival anything you see up and down the country.

“We pride ourselves on our brand values: Introducing the vast potential of VR to people who have never tried it, while delivering an amazing customer experience.

VR City will always have cutting-edge technology to bring the most immersive VR experiences and we work tirelessly to make the time here memorable.”

On its website, VR City describes itself as “Yorkshire’s biggest, most immersive and best virtual reality experience “VR City is bringing virtual reality gaming to Bradford, in a big way.

“With a massive catalogue of gaming options, in a state-of-the-art environment, we have an experience not to be missed.”
