THE inquest into the death of a Bradford teenager who fell through the greenhouse of a property in Halifax has been opened and adjourned.

Mohammed Qais Ratyal, of Bradford, died in the garden of a house in Halifax. He was 17.

The inquest heard that Mohammed was dropped off by his mother at The Broadway shopping centre in Bradford at 6.15pm on November 5. He was then part of a group which travelled to Halifax and were seen in Vickerman Street, the inquest opening hearing was told.

Reports were made to police of people seen 'garden hopping' on Vickerman Street that night, the inquest heard.

The court was told that Ratyal became impaled on the glass of a greenhouse that he had fallen into, or through, in the garden of a property on Vickerman Street.

An ambulance was called to the scene and pressure was applied to the teenager’s wound at the scene, the inquest heard.

He was pronounced dead from his injuries at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary at 9.46pm on November 5.

Ian Pears, assistant coroner for West Yorkshire West, opened and adjourned the inquest into Ratyal’s death today (Monday).

The teenager’s inquest will be held on April 4 next year.

Mohammed’s death came on the night when police were called to complaints about a group of people hurling fireworks.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman released a statement last week regarding the incident.

He said: “Police were contacted by the ambulance service shortly before 8.15pm on Saturday evening (November 5) following reports of an injured male in the garden of a property on Vickerman Street, Halifax.

“The 17-year-old male was taken to hospital where he sadly died of his injuries.

“The matter has been reported to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) as police were called to the vicinity due to a report of fireworks being set off prior to the incident.”

Tributes have been paid in the Telegraph & Argus’ online book of condolence.

Qamar Rashid said: “I went to the burial, I talked to community teachers and sports club owners, they all spoke highly of Qais, a great child who left the world too early. May God raise your ranks in heaven. We pray for the safety of our children.”

Nagina said: “May Allah grant him highest rank in JANNAT and give family sabar another young life lost breaks my heart.”

Najum Saleem said: “I pray for you and peace for your family.”
