WEST YORKSHIRE is the county with the highest number of speeding offences in the UK, a new study has suggested.

The study, which was carried out by car finance company Moneybarn, analysed the number of speeding offences in each police force area of the country over the last 12 months.

There were 180,432 offences in West Yorkshire over that period, topping the list out of 43 police force regions.

Greater Manchester followed, with 178,123 offences.

West Yorkshire was reported to have had 7.69 speeding offences per 100,000 people, meaning it came fifth in the overall rankings.

Neighbours North Yorkshire was third overall, with 8.86 speeding offences per 100,000 people.

The overall list was topped by Lincolnshire, which had 16.2 offences per 100,000, followed by Norfolk, with 10.41.

Gwent in South Wales had the least speed limit offences, with just 218, compared to a population of almost 600,000.

Bill Scotney, Commercial Director at Moneybarn, said. “My advice to drivers would be to relax, keep to the limit and leave a good gap to the vehicle in front.

“You will still get to your destination at roughly the same time as you would speeding, but you will stay safe and not get any speeding points in the process.
