A 36-year-old man has been charged over an armed robbery in Keighley which left one shopworker injured.

Police were called to the Co-op on Broomhill Avenue shortly after 8.15pm on Saturday.

James Richardson of West Bank Close was charged with robbery along with possession of an offensive weapon, namely a knife, and possession of an imitation firearm with intent.

He was also charged with a separate and unrelated offence of shoplifting at Sainsburys in Keighley.

The man was remanded into custody to appear at Bradford Magistrates on November 9, 2022.

In a statement, West Yorkshire Police said: “A man from Keighley has been charged with an armed robbery in the town.

“James Richardson,  36 of West Bank Close was charged with robbery along with possession of an offensive weapon (knife) and possession of an imitation firearm with intent, as well as an unrelated offence of shoplifting at Sainsburys in Keighley.

“It’s after an incident at the Co-op on Broomfield Road on November 5.

“Richardson was remanded into custody to appear at Bradford Magistrates today (November 9).”
