PLANS for a town centre health hub are still being reviewed by Government in advance of funding being released.

Through the Government’s Towns Fund, Keighley has been awarded over £33m for projects to boost the town centre in the coming years.

Over £3m of this cash would be used to help develop a long planned health and wellbeing hub on the former Keighley College site on North Street.

But a recent announcement that Government was releasing millions in Towns Fund cash for projects in Keighley included no mention of the health hub.

When asked about the status of the funding for the scheme, a Keighley Towns Fund spokesperson, said: “The business case for the Keighley Health & Wellbeing Centre was updated over summer with the support of the board and has been submitted to the government who are reviewing it in advance of releasing the funding.”

The planned health hub has divided opinion in Keighley. Some have welcomed the planned investment in health facilities in an area with poor health outcomes. But others have called for the plan to build on the former College site – now home to a temporary green space, to be scrapped – the green space retained and a new site found for the centre.
