From it’s historical accuracy to it’s fun take on modernism, SIX is the perfect show for anyone who’d like to see it. The variety of songs and atmosphere refuses boredom of anyone and the incredible cast had the audience up and dancing by the end of it. SIX The Musical first sang their way into the world at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2017 and since then become a huge phenomenon, people coming from all over England to their nearest theatre to see it. This unique and fascinating representation of Henry VIII’s ‘SIX’ wives, has a never been done before twist on it where all six ex-wives form a band!

As you approach the Alhambra Theatre, the bright and colourful billboards advertising the show come into view, showcasing the production about to be seen. Stepping through the doorway of the grand theatre, you are met with a charismatic lobby filled with the sounds of excitable voices and friendly staff. Whilst you sip your drink at the bar, you hear all sorts of chatter around you talking about the production. Deborah Hammond expressed her interest in the show as she stated, “Really looking forward to it! I’ve done one of these songs in a show I did myself as well.”

Ben Saxton and Laine Moore also talked about what they were expecting in the show as Ben Saxton says, “I don’t know, I’m very unsure, I don’t know very much about it.” Laine Moore pipes in with “It was one of the hot new shows and we both really wanted to see it when it came out.” Clearly people are hearing about it from all over the country and are really looking forward to seeing it.

Finding your seats in the theatre proved easy with the letters written on the floor and the eager staff happy to help. As the audience made their way to their seats, a rock version of Greensleeves- a Tudor song written by Henry VIII -fittingly played at a steady rhythm as the show prepared to begin.

With all the colour, lights and music, SIX is a truly mind blowing performance. It had it all, humour, anger, comedic relief, accuracy and recognition which was all pulled together in the end to one... or should I say six. The characters had amazing outfits, perfectly reflecting their personalities and experiences while the choreography was fun and the songs where captivating. The portrayal of the characters was awe-inspiring as they skilfully brought them to life. Together with the talented band and backstage effort, SIX was an unimaginable experience for everyone who went to see it. This excitement was clearly shown by Gemma Cryer as she said, “This is my second show. It’s the same cast and we saw it in March. We came back to see it again because we liked it so much.”

SIX has proved to be a deep and thought- provoking show who anyone can see to teach them about Tudor history from the view point of Henry’s wives and how women in Tudor times tended to be. It is an astonishing performance that exceeds anyones expectations and is something worth experiencing.
