THE Bradford Ukrainian Club celebrated Bonfire Night in a very unique way this past weekend.

Members hosted a bonfire with a dummy posing as Russian president Vladimir Putin at the summit.

The burning of the model - which was made out of straw, clothing and a Putin face mask - was to show the club's support for Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia.

Director of the Bradford Ukrainian Club Ewhen Chymera said: "Everyone cheered when his head fell off, it was a minor victory.

"I helped organise the Bonfire and it was a Ukrainian refugee girl who prepared the Putin model.

"Everyone at the club was angry just seeing his face. It was £2 I did not want to spend on the face mask.

"The feeling was strong. It was a bit of fun with a serious undertone."

The event, which included a smaller-than-usual fireworks display, was well attended with a cultural mix from the local area.

Mr Chymera added: "We had been planning to do it for some days. We have been hosting Bonfire Night for years.

"It was nice to see the refugees getting involved after understanding the tradition of Bonfire Night."
