FIREFIGHTERS were called to a scrapyard on Saturday night after a bonfire spread out of control.

Crews from Odsal, Bradford, Fairweather Green and Cleckheaton were called to the scene, on Wyke Lane, at around 6.50pm.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the bonfire spread when the direction of the wind changed.

The fire spread to where some tyres were being kept and to some other parts of the yard.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus brought the blaze under control using large jets and a hose reel.

There was a fire service presence at the scene for around six hours, while Yorkshire Water were also called to advise.

The owner's JCB digger was also utilised.
