A TOTAL of £46,000 has been spent to update a well-used playground in the heart of the Ravenscliffe community.

Locals have spotted work being done to the site behind Ravenscliffe Youth Community centre.

Funding from a number of organisations has been put together to update the play area with a rocking rider, gravity spinner and seesaw.

Councillor Chris Hayden said: “I know that many Ravenscliffe residents will be very pleased to see this upgrade to the Ravenscliffe Community Centre Playground. It will be a much-used play area once the project is completed. The works began on  November 1 and are likely to be concluded by the end of November, weather permitting.

“The project will replace the existing multi-unit, add additional equipment and resurface the safety surfacing. The project costs £46k and the funding has come from the Playable Spaces Strategy. I would like to thank the council Parks team and also the contractors Ground Inc.

“Since being elected Councillor in May I have been raising the outdated play facilities at a number of sites across Eccleshill. I will continue to promote such improvements, working in collaboration with a number of different organisations and the wider community to provide the best possible options for the young families who live here.”

The playground is under construction and is unsafe for people to walk access.
