A MAN who had more than £20,000 worth of drugs in his flat was aggressive with the police when they came to bust his cannabis farm, Bradford Crown Court heard.

Kenneth Kidd was angry when the officers arrived at his home, headbutting one of them and trying to attack another, prosecutor Paul Canfield said.

Kidd, 33, of Grayswood Crescent, Holme Wood, Bradford, pleaded guilty to production of cannabis, possession of the Class B drug with intent to supply it, assaulting two police officers as emergency workers and simple possession of 102 MDA, or Ecstasy, tablets.

He was today spared an immediate custodial sentence after staying out of trouble since the offences were committed more than two years ago.

Mr Canfield said the police arrived at Kidd’s address on September 3, 2020, to investigate reports of a cannabis farm there. He didn’t want to let them into his flat. He headbutted one officer in the face, causing no injury, and lunged at another trying to headbutt him. He was handcuffed and put into a prisoner handling cage.

Kidd had a 41 plant cannabis farm in his loft capable of yielding 2.26 kilos of the drug with a value of £11,500 to £18,000. There was also £1,190 worth of dried cannabis at the address and MDA tablets worth up to £1,590.

Mr Canfield said the total value of the drugs seized from the flat was £20,780.

Saf Salam said in mitigation that the offences were more than two years old. Kidd was not postal requisitioned for 18 months and it begged the question why.

He accepted that he was growing and selling cannabis from his flat.

He had stayed out of trouble since and had health problems that made him unfit for unpaid work.

Mr Salam urged the court to suspend any sentence of imprisonment.

Recorder Mark McKone KC said Kidd had a cannabis farm in his loft with a value of up to £18,000. There was dried cannabis in the house and evidence that he was selling it on.

It was a difficult sentencing exercise because he was out of trouble for ten years before this offending and these offences were two years and two months old. He had proved he could stay out of trouble.

A psychiatric report detailed his ADHD and mental health problems.

Kidd was sentenced to 22 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, with a six-month drug treatment requirement and a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement.
