A POLICE officer coaxed a distressed man down from a bridge by talking and listening to him.

PCSO Wardman, who covers the Brighouse area, was out on patrol yesterday when he noticed a man on a bridge.

The officer described the man as looking "distressed" and so decided to act.

He began talking to the male and managed to coax him down from the bridge.

PCSO Wardman then sat talking and listening to the man while waiting for an ambulance to arrive.

This then took the man to a place of safety where PCSO Wardman said he will "hopefully receive the help he needs".

The officer added: "Remember, if you are feeling like you want to end your life there are many organisations out there that will help you."
