A GAZEBO-covered outdoor dining area could be the latest addition at a village pub if new plans are approved.
The New Inn in East Bierley hopes to add a new stand-alone timber-framed gazebo with a shingle roof to its beer garden at the rear of the pub.
It would create an all-weather seating area for outdoor drinking and dining.
Plans show tables and seating for 18 people under the proposed gazebo with a tables for a further six diners on a new paved area adjacent to the timber structure.
In a design and access statement accompanying the plans which have been submitted to Kirklees Council, it states that the New Inn is an “integral part of the community”.
“The New Inn is a moderate sized establishment which currently serves the local community."
“Our client is aiming to attract more customers to the pub by providing a desirable establishment and facilities for all. The aim is to improve the dining facilities by adding the new gazebo to the rear side of the premises creating more covers.
“The aim is to create a friendly environment for the local community and guests to enjoy, whilst remaining sympathetic to the conservation area the pub lies within.”
It adds that Star Pubs and Bars wants to “offer improved facilities throughout and ensure the pub be more suited to safe socialising and dining for all”.
“The proposals within the application have been designed to offer an altogether safer and more enjoyable experience for all people visiting the pub, particularly people local to the area who will have a better facility to enjoy only a short distance away.”
There are no planned changes to the existing car park, which has 28 spaces.
A spokesperson for Star Pubs & Bars said: “The New Inn, East Bierley is in a beautiful village location with enviable views of the local golf course. We believe it has real potential to be a fantastic community pub serving home-cooked food alongside an excellent real ale offer, plus a great venue for private functions such as birthdays, wakes and christenings.
“Subject to recruiting a new operator, we want to invest in it and refurbish it throughout, create a new covered area at the back of the pub, and build a brand new kitchen so the New Inn can serve quality food.

The New Inn is not listed but is within the East Bierley Conservation Area.
A decision is expected on the latest plans in December.
