A BRADFORD man was delighted to see the district come together in celebrating Black History Month last week.
Tony Tokunbo Eteka Fernandez, founder of local organisation Africa4U, organised the celebrations at Bradford’s City Library on Friday.
People from all backgrounds attended and watched as nine local people and organisations received awards for their selfless work in the community.
“It was a wonderful event and I’m happy it went well,” said Tony, of Wyke, who will host another event for Black History Month – at the Houses of Parliament in London – next week.
“I felt very inspired by everyone who spoke at the event. There were people there who have been doing amazing things.
“I hope we can keep giving back to the community and encourage Bradfordians to be the changes they want to see in society.”
Judith Cummins, Labour MP for Bradford South, also attended the event.
“It was great that Ms Cummins was here and we were very grateful for that,” Tony said.
“We were also supported on the day by Bradford 4 Better, who were a massive help.”
The award recipients on the night were: Vincent Destouche, Maureen Rowe, the Dominica Association of Bradford, 2tshirtgang, Jabu Phiri, Clementine Chitulangoma, Bolu Fagborun, Trey Terrelonge and Nana Abena Hagan.
