A MAN has received a suspended sentence for carrying a knife three miles from his house and near a Bradford park. 

Declan Murgatroyd, 29, of Upper Mosscar Street, in the Eastbrook area was found guilty of possessing a knife blade or sharp-pointed article in a public place at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court last Monday.

He originally pleaded not guilty on February 25 this year at the same court, where Murgatroyd admitted to possessing a controlled drug of class B - cannabis, as part of the same case.

The 29-year-old was caught in Eggleston Drive, near Pit Hill Park on September 19, 2020 with a knife on him.

He was also found carrying a quantity of cannabis.

Murgatroyd was handed a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months - meaning he will go to jail if he commits another offence in the next year.

He was also ordered to pay £748 to the court in total.

This includes, a surcharge of £128 to fund victim services and costs of £620.
